Features: At the dawn of the new century, scientists from all over the world hold high hopes for the development of consciousness science and are exploring this complex scientific issue from various perspectives. On one hand, they expect to gradually understand the mysterious function of the human brain, and on the other hand, they hope to drive the development of the third-generation information industry, including artificial intelligence, robotics, and brain-computer interfaces. Studying the relationship between the brain and consciousness essentially aims to answer the fundamental scientific question of how matter transforms into the mind. Therefore, this is an extremely challenging and cutting-edge scientific endeavor. If neuroscience has achieved miraculous accomplishments in the past century, there is no doubt that in the next 100 years, even more inspiring breakthroughs will emerge in our understanding of consciousness processes such as cognition, attention, and thinking. The wise human race will use its wisdom to unravel the mysteries of wisdom. The authors of this book come from mainland China, Hong Kong, the United States, Japan, the United Kingdom, Denmark, and other countries and regions. They are all leading researchers at the forefront of scientific research, undertaking heavy research responsibilities. Among them are several recipients of the National Outstanding Young Scientists Fund of China, Distinguished Professors of the Ministry of Education's "Yangtze Scholars" Program, and inductees of the Chinese Academy of Sciences' "100 Talents Program." There are also professors, associate professors, assistant professors, and laboratory directors at renowned universities in Europe and the United States. The authors have dedicated their time to carefully completing the writing, with three of them contributing to the writing of two chapters each. From the beginning of 2003 when the first manuscript was received to the final one being collected in June 2005, it took a full two and a half years, demonstrating the challenges involved.
