Features: The compilation of the "New Century Chinese Dictionary" strictly adheres to a series of regulations and standards on language and characters issued by relevant national authorities. The term "standards" refers to the thorough implementation of various aspects, such as character forms and pronunciations, including the "List for the Rectification of Variant Characters" promulgated by the Ministry of Culture and the Committee of Chinese Language Reform in 1955, the "Hanyu Pinyin Scheme" adopted by the fifth session of the National People's Congress in 1958, the "Auditory Review List of Dialectal Variants of Mandarin" issued by the National Language and Character Working Committee and the Ministry of Education in 1985, and the "Commonly Used Characters List of Modern Chinese" published by the former Committee of Chinese Language Reform, the National Language and Character Working Committee, and the State Press and Publication Administration in 1988, among other standardized norms. At the same time, the compilation also rigorously follows other language and character norms issued by relevant national authorities, such as the standardized terms approved by the National Committee for the Examination of Technical Terms. In summary, all standards related to language and character norms are fully reflected in the dictionary. Guided by this editorial philosophy, comrades such as Sun Zhizhong, Zhang Wei, Li Weifu, Huang Chengwen, and Dai Zhengxing spent seven years compiling this New Century Chinese Dictionary.
