Features: With the development and deepening of China's reform and opening-up, the teaching in higher education institutions has become increasingly clear in the urgent need and positive significance of cultivating practical and interdisciplinary talents. Compiling the English Common Application Writing book now presented to the readers is our long-standing aspiration. In the long-term teaching practice, the editors have been deeply moved. Although there are numerous similar works on the market, they are not entirely suitable for the teaching of junior colleges and universities. One reason is that such books mostly only introduce example texts without explaining writing methods and principles. Another reason is that the types of documents introduced are often not chosen from common or familiar perspectives, lacking practicality or being not very practical. Additionally, the types of documents introduced are either too narrow in scope or too low in level, or they excessively select rare types of documents, resulting in an uneven level throughout the book. All these factors inspired the editors to compile a textbook suitable for the actual situation of higher education institutions, with the background of university life and the social situations students may encounter after graduation. From the current teaching of universities, there is indeed a need for such a book. Currently, college English writing teaching only involves basic English writing, while professional English writing for each major tends to focus on its own field, lacking a comprehensive textbook that covers various majors and emphasizes a wide range of social topics both inside and outside the university. This book aims to fill this gap, which is also our expectation. This book is primarily a textbook, but its use is not limited to teaching. It can also serve as a reference book for self-study and advancement, or even as a reference tool for checking purposes. The format of each part of the book is roughly the same, and each chapter ends with exercises for students and readers to use.
