The humor master Charlie Chaplin once said: Humor is the highest expression of wisdom. People with a sense of humor are most, able not only to get along with others happily but, more importantly, to live a happy life. And who did this humor master hold in high esteem? That would be the man he called the "father of American humor" — Robert Stern. Stern is a psychology professor at Stanford University and an expert who has made "humor" his research topic. Interestingly, during World War II, many soldiers heading to the European battlefield carried only two books with them: one was the Bible, and the other was this book, The Art of Humor.
Through The Art of Humor, Robert Stern explains to us that humor is a symbol of a person's character, ability, and wisdom. It is a form of cultivation; humor is used to heal, not to harm. Humor is love! In short, humor is a positive attitude toward life. It fills life with joy, warmth, love, and hope.
