Features: The Yellow River is the cradle of the Chinese nation and a vital water source for the northwestern and northern regions of China. With the rapid economic and social development in the basin, the exploitation and utilization of water resources have continuously increased, while the discharge of industrial and urban wastewater has also been growing daily. This has led to the worsening pollution of the Yellow River's water body, exacerbating the imbalance between water supply and demand, which severely restricts the sustainable development of the basin's economy and society. Therefore, improving the protection of Yellow River water resources and restoring the quality of its water and ecological environment are major issues and urgent tasks in the management of the Yellow River. In 2005, the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the Yellow River Basin Water Resources Protection Bureau was celebrated, and the fourth official publication of "Selected Achievements and Papers on Yellow River Water Resources Protection" collected 76 new achievements and papers since 1999, further showcasing the new explorations and achievements made by water resources protection workers under the guidance of new water management concepts. This serves to benefit discussions on new ideas for water resources protection management, research on new theories for basin ecological protection and maintaining the health of river ecosystems, promote scientific and academic exchanges, and advance the sustainable and steady development of the water resources protection cause. It is also presented as a gift to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the Yellow River Basin Water Resources Protection Bureau.
