Publishing Date: 2006-01-01
Features: This journal has won the National Periodical Award for the third consecutive time. This collection of excellence basically represents the new creative standards of Chinese short and medium-length fiction in mainland China in 2005. It covers a broader and more diverse range of social fields, presents more profound and incisive themes, features more unique and engaging plots, and portrays more vivid and lifelike characters. The book still adheres to the established editorial format, consisting of two major sections: medium-length fiction and short fiction. Each work is arranged in the order of its original publication in the journal, and each short story is preceded by a recent photograph of the author and a brief biography of their creative career. The stories pay more attention to social reality, care about the fate of the people, show concern for the warmth of life, and care for the world of the soul, further highlighting the responsibility and conscience of the writers. As Mr. Ba Jin, the honorary consultant of the journal, said: "Why do people need literature? It is needed to sweep away the garbage in our hearts, to bring us hope, courage, and strength, and to let us see more light." This year's collection includes both devoted new works by established middle-aged and elderly writers who have long been renowned in the literary world, as well as carefully crafted efforts by emerging young writers who have shone in the 21st century.
