Wang Fuzhi (1619-1692) was a great Enlightenment thinker and philosopher of the late Ming and early Qing dynasties. His courtesy name was Nailong, and he was from Hengyang, Hunan. Due to his later seclusion in Jilan Township, Hengyang (now Qulan Township, Hengyang County), he was known as the "Master of the Boat Mountain." Tan Sitong once praised him, saying, "In five hundred years of scholarship, only Wang Fuzhi truly comprehends the meaning of the universe and heaven." Zeng Guofan and Zeng Guochuan established an bureau in Nanjing to publish "Wang Fuzhi's Collected Works," which are commonly referred to as the "Jinling Edition" or "Zeng Edition." It included 56 works and 288 volumes. In 1933, the Shanghai Pacific Bookstore reprinted "Wang Fuzhi's Collected Works," known as the "Pacific Edition." This edition added 12 more works compared to the Zeng Edition. The "Wang Fuzhi's Collected Works" published this time is based on the "Pacific Edition" and has been further corrected, annotated, and punctuated by referencing other versions and works, making it more faithful to the original. It provides an invaluable resource for readers and scholars to further study Wang Fuzhi's thoughts, promote the excellent traditional culture of the Chinese nation, and foster national confidence, strength, and self-defense. It also inspires the national spirit, encouraging a fearless spirit of innovation to build a new socialist culture. Therefore, the republication of "Wang Fuzhi's Collected Works" will be a significant and influential event, both for the publishing industry and academia.
