[Preface] Fieldbuses come in different types for various applications and have been recognized in different industries. Fieldbus technology and fieldbus control systems are the development directions of automated instruments and control systems. Currently, there are few textbooks and related materials on fieldbuses. To promote the application and popularization of fieldbuses in China, and in line with the requirements for their use in the country, we have compiled this book. It primarily introduces Foundation Fieldbus technology and Foundation Fieldbus control systems, covering digital communication technology, fieldbus technology, the design, configuration, installation, and maintenance of fieldbus devices and control systems, as well as brief introductions to other fieldbuses used in industrial process control. To facilitate learning, the book is written in a progressive manner, allowing readers to start with basic concepts and terminology, gradually deepening their understanding of fieldbuses. The book is divided into six chapters. Chapter 1 introduces the basic concepts of fieldbuses and the fundamental composition of fieldbus control systems. Chapter 2 covers the basics of data communication, fieldbus communication, and functional modules, serving as the foundation of the book. Chapter 3 discusses fieldbus models, including the Open Systems Interconnection (OSI) reference model, fieldbus communication models, and OPC technology. Chapter 4 focuses on fieldbuses and applications used in process control, such as Foundation Fieldbus, PROFIBUS Process Fieldbus, and WorldFIP Fieldbus, as well as the HART fieldbus, which lies between analog and digital communication. Chapter 5 introduces fieldbus devices, including transmitter-type devices, actuator-type devices, signal conversion devices, indicator and recorder devices, and interface devices, along with related fieldbus auxiliary equipment such as power supplies, power regulators, and other accessories. Chapter 6 discusses the design, configuration, installation, and maintenance of Foundation Fieldbus, as well as its applications in industrial process control. This book serves as a reference for engineering technicians, designers, and maintenance personnel in the field of industrial process control and design departments, as well as a teaching material for students in related fields.
