Features: Chechnya is a crucial part of the dissolution of the Soviet Union, a political black hole and a sacrificial altar of power in Russia. Chechnya is even seen as a plot by external forces to weaken Russia and a step in the competition among major powers for the Caucasus. Since the outbreak of the Chechen War ten years ago, it has not completely ended, and there are still many blind spots in our understanding of the Chechen issue. For a long time, some of the behind-the-scenes dynamics of the Chechen crisis will remain a mystery to many contemporary people. It involves dirty conspiracies and certain groups and individuals who are still active today. If revealed, it would completely overturn past propaganda and conclusions, leading some to be etched into the hall of historical shame. As a historian, even as a Russian scholar, we cannot access these fatal secrets. For ordinary people, it holds, while for those involved, they would rather it fade into memory. This book attempts to use the basic theories of history, sociology, political science, ethnology, as well as theories from international politics, geopolitics, and other disciplines to address the following main issues: examining the roots and essence of the Chechen crisis and providing academic analysis and explanation; discussing the social and political consequences of the Chechen crisis for Chechnya and Russia; analyzing its current status and prospects. This book comprehensively examines the various factors leading to the outbreak of the Chechen crisis and clearly summarizes them into five factors. Of course, these factors do not exert equal influence; instead, they play different roles at different levels, angles, and stages.
