Features: This book is revised based on the original Introduction to Physics (Second Edition), which was written for normal colleges. The revision retains the original book's characteristics while incorporating teaching content suitable for undergraduate levels, in accordance with the teaching standards of physics majors in normal universities and science and engineering colleges. This aligns with the requirements for secondary school physics teachers as outlined in the 2003 Ministry of Education's General Physics Curriculum Standards and the recent development of mass higher education. The book is divided into five volumes: Mechanics, Thermodynamics, Electromagnetism, Optics, and Fundamentals of Quantum Physics. This volume is the Mechanics part, which includes the following chapters:
Chapter 1, Introduction to Physics, serves as the book's introduction, providing an overview of physics for beginners. Chapters 2 through 12 cover the motion of particles and rigid bodies, particle dynamics, universal gravitation, the basics of relativity, dynamics of particle systems, equilibrium and rotation of rigid bodies, elastic deformation, fluid mechanics, mechanical vibrations, mechanical waves, and acoustics. Chapter 13, The Application of MATLAB in General Physics, introduces the use of the computer mathematical software MATLAB in the study of general physics.
This book has been appropriately elevated in difficulty, presenting mechanics based on vector and calculus foundations. It strives to comprehensively introduce the thought processes and methodologies of physics, as well as the connections between mechanics and daily life and high technology. It can serve as a textbook for physics majors in normal universities, science and engineering colleges, and does not lose its knowledge structure even after removing chapters marked with or . It is also suitable for use as a teaching material in normal colleges, teacher education institutions, correspondence courses, and as a reference book for the training of secondary school physics teachers.
