Features: In the 21st century, the Ministry of Education issued a new curriculum standard for compulsory education. The publication of experimental textbooks for compulsory education under the guidance of this new curriculum standard is an important sign of deepening educational reform in China. The writing of the new mathematics textbooks gives a fresh and innovative feel. How to deeply understand the new curriculum standards and how to improve students' quality, especially their ability to independently explore, has become an urgent new issue to be addressed. The writing of this book is a new attempt in this regard. Based on a careful study and exploration of the new curriculum standards, we have compiled the experience of recent years in research on inquiry-based learning, combined with the specific content of the mathematics textbooks, to concretize the basic concepts and goals of the new curriculum standards. This is beneficial for middle school students to learn new mathematics and also for middle school teachers to teach mathematics. The entire book is based on the experimental mathematics textbook for Grade 7 (Volume 2) published by East China Normal University Press. Each chapter includes the following sections: Introduction to Mathematics, Basics and Exercises, Inquiry and Reflection, Mathematics and Life, and Appreciation of Famous Mathematical Problems, etc.
Introduction to Mathematics—Provides the historical and practical background of each chapter's knowledge, helping students understand what mathematics is, how this chapter's knowledge came about, and why it is useful to study it. It also provides the basic learning requirements for each chapter.
Basics and Exercises—Offers problems for middle school students to train their foundational knowledge and skills, facilitating the mastery of concepts, formulas, rules, and properties. It also includes common mistakes to help correct them.
Inquiry and Reflection—Provides richer, deeper, and more comprehensive learning materials for middle school students compared to the new textbooks. Some problems are more challenging, helping to strengthen mathematical thinking, enabling students to delve deeper into exploration, and teaching them to use mathematical language to discuss and express logical reasoning.
Mathematics and Life—Offers realistic, meaningful, and challenging learning content and inquiry-based problems to help students learn to ask questions from a mathematical perspective, understand problems, and apply their knowledge to analyze and solve practical problems, thereby developing an awareness of application.
Appreciation of Famous Mathematical Problems, Anecdotes, and Mathematical Games—Provides some interesting and engaging mathematical problems to help improve students' interest in learning mathematics, cultivate a positive attitude toward mathematics, and develop mathematical values.
In summary, the purpose of writing this book is to achieve:
—Everyone learns mathematics that is valuable;
—Everyone can obtain the necessary mathematics;
—Different people can develop differently in mathematics.
