Features: Based on the vocabulary/phrase reference list for the "Teaching Requirements (Teaching Syllabus) for College English Courses" commissioned by the Higher Education Department of the Ministry of Education in 2004, this dictionary includes a total of 6,674 words and 1,875 phrases. Among them:
- General requirement: 4,538 words, no marking;
- Higher requirement: 1,081 words, marked with ★;
- Higher still requirement: 1,005 words, marked with ▲.
The compilers paid attention to aligning with the requirements of previous teaching syllabus vocabulary lists, referenced vocabulary for CET-4, CET-6, and postgraduate entrance exams, and selected definitions by referring to original dictionaries such as Longman, Oxford, Chambers, Merriam-Webster, and Random House. The examples included were all sourced from original English dictionaries or newly published English-Chinese dictionaries by renowned domestic publishers. During compilation, attention was given to the rigor and standardization of the dictionary.
To facilitate students in learning by analogy and reviewing for reinforcement, this dictionary specially includes common synonyms and antonyms for some adjectives, verbs, and nouns. Additionally, it provides vocabulary distinctions for easily confused words that are similar in form or meaning. The target audience is college English course learners, and it can also serve as a reference for teachers.
