Author: G.V. Plekhanov [Russia]
Publisher:
Publishing Date: 1999-11-01
Features: The author of this book, Plekhanov, was a renowned international socialist movement activist and an outstanding philosopher and historian in Russia. This three-volume work is a monograph written in his later years. In the book, he starts from the principles of historical materialism and elaborates in detail how Russian social thought was determined by the social productive forces of the time and how it developed alongside the growth of productivity. Our institution has always attached great importance to translating academic masterpieces from all over the world. Since the 1950s, we have been dedicated to translating and publishing classical academic works before the birth of Marxism, while also appropriately introducing representative works of contemporary, well-regarded schools. Thanks to the support of the publishing and translation community, we have published no fewer than three hundred and fifty titles over the past three decades. We firmly believe that only by enriching our minds with the entire wealth of human knowledge can we build a modern socialist society. The intellectual treasures and academic value embedded in these books are well-known to scholars and need no elaboration. These translations were previously published as standalone volumes, making it difficult to see the bigger picture. Compiling them into a series allows them to complement each other and present a grand panorama, making it easier for research and reference while facilitating cultural accumulation. For this purpose, we published more than three hundred and sixty masterpieces in nine volumes from 1981 to 2000. We are now continuing to compile and publish the tenth volume. By the end of 2004, we aim to publish four hundred titles. In the future, we will continue to publish works in the Masterpiece series based on the accumulation of individual titles. Due to the use of original typesetting, the translations could not be thoroughly proofread, and the formatting is not entirely uniform. All prefaces and postfaces from the original translations have been retained where applicable, with minor corrections or deletions made to some. The reading community fully understands the need to approach these works with a correct analytical attitude, extracting their useful essence while discarding outdated dross, and this need requires no further explanation from us. We hope that scholars and translators at home and abroad will provide criticism and suggestions to help us produce this series to the best of our ability.
