Publishing Date: 2005-10-01
Features: This book collects Western Xia studies papers from foreign journals between 1925 and 1940, arranged in chronological order of publication. The papers included in this book focus solely on the study of Western Xia language, script, artifacts, and literature, and articles that merely describe historical facts from Chinese historical texts are excluded. However, Wei Weilie's article, "A Study of Ancient Buddhist Inscriptions in Jiuyong Pass in North China," is an exception—it does not mention Western Xia but is the first reference scholars should cite when discussing the history of Western Xia studies in Europe. Each paper included in this book has been translated into Chinese, with the original titles, sources, and related notes provided in the annotations of the translated titles. Typographical errors in Chinese characters and Arabic numerals in the original texts have been corrected in the translations without additional notes. Knowledge-based errors arising from the limitations of scientific research at the time are marked with "Translator's Note," while others are retained as they are for readers to discern and study.
