Features: The Keduo Hefo is a full-length novel by Mr. Zhang Fanghui, following the television series The Keduo Hefo. Based on historical facts, the novel uses a realistic writing style to artistically portray the brilliant image of a Buddhist monk who loves his country and his religion, progresses from understanding the revolution to joining it, and ultimately sacrifices his life for the revolution. It is vivid, moving, and deeply touching! Often people compare him to this: the bright five-star red flag is dyed with the blood of revolutionary martyrs, but among those who have stained this flag with their own blood, there is also a high lama of Tibetan Buddhism in robes. His name is Keduo Hefo. Keduo Hefo was born in a ordinary village in Ganzi, into a poor family of a Chapa (a type of local official). At the age of five, after strict selection, he was chosen as a spiritual child and enthroned as the Fifth Keduo Hefo at Baili Monastery. At the age of seventeen, he went to Lhasa to study Buddhist scriptures at Drepung Monastery. He devoted himself to studying and, by the age of twenty-four, had earned the highest academic degree in the monastery—the Geshe degree. Keduo Hefo rejected a wonderful opportunity to stay in Lhasa and returned to Kangba, choosing the path of preaching to the poor farmers, herdsmen, and believers. As a young Keduo Hefo, when he was uncertain about how to better serve the "supporters" and "save all sentient beings," the Central Red Army arrived. He went from avoiding the Red Army to recognizing it, from recognizing it to integrating with it, and from integrating with it to helping it. After the Red Army left, a small Baili Monastery, along with the local Tibetans, stayed behind to accommodate and protect over four hundred wounded and sick Red Army soldiers. For this, he suffered persecution and had to flee his homeland, escaping for ten years. When the People's Liberation Army returned, he aligned himself with the People's Government, heart and soul, and ultimately gave his life for it. In July 1950, Keduo Hefo, for the new China and to maintain the unity and solidarity of all ethnic groups, refused the invitation of General Zhu De and Premier Zhou Enlai to attend the National People's Political Consultative Conference in Beijing and went to Tibet to mediate peace. His patriotic actions were deeply praised by Tibetan monks and laypeople, but he was blocked in Qamdo and was ultimately murdered by imperialist forces and pro-imperialist factions.
Wiping away the dust of history, we have revived the "Keduo Hefo" from half a century ago, allowing him to walk toward us, so that we can see his appearance and expression, his sorrow and laughter. His demeanor of smiling in the face of life and death for the great cause of national unification will forever remain in our hearts. The famous Fifth Keduo Hefo was patriotic, devout, compassionate, and erudite. He was in complete harmony with the Communist Party of China and a close friend of the People's Liberation Army. He braved hardships and risked his life for the unification of the motherland and the peaceful liberation of Tibet. His journey to mediate peace in Lhasa was full of dangers, and his encounter in Qamdo kept readers on the edge of their seats. His tragic and heroic demise at a young age is both sorrowful and magnificent. The scenery of Kangding is captivating, and its customs are unique and touching. The girls of Kangba are as beautiful as flowers, and the men are as heroic and valiant as tigers. Want to learn more? This book tells you—
