Publish Date: 2005-11-01
Features: This book is divided into two parts: General Introduction and Specific Sections. The General Introduction briefly covers the history of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), fundamental theories of TCM, and naming principles of TCM herbs. The Specific Sections include 148 commonly used herbs, categorized into 18 groups. Each herb is summarized from five aspects: origin, efficacy, applications, common formulas, and precautions. Each herb is accompanied by multiple color illustrations to depict its properties, meridian tropism, and morphological characteristics (including plant and medicinal material images). Occasionally, comparisons of related herbs are provided, or brief introductions to TCM trivia are included. At the end of each category, a summary table lists the class, name, properties, meridian tropism, efficacy, source, and medicinal part of the herbs in that group. An index of herb names is appended at the end for easy memorization and quick reference. The book features a novel and engaging layout, with one page dedicated to each herb, where color illustrations complement the concise text. Similar to Illustrated Formulas and Food Therapy for Common Diseases, it is convenient for students of TCM colleges to study and memorize, as well as for TCM enthusiasts as an introductory reading material.
