Features: Since 1990, the National Cultural Relics Administration has commissioned China Cultural Relics News Agency and the Chinese Archaeological Society to hold the annual selection of the Top Ten National Archaeological Discoveries. This event has played a significant role in national cultural relic protection and archaeological research. In 2002, a collection of 100 archaeological discoveries from 1990 to 1999 was published by China Cultural Relics Publishing House. Starting from 2000, the annual Top Ten National Archaeological Discoveries have been published and distributed by Sanlian Bookstore each year. The criteria for selecting the Top Ten National Archaeological Discoveries must comply with the Cultural Relics Protection Law of the People's Republic of China and the Implementation Rules of the Cultural Relics Protection Law of the People's Republic of China. Each archaeological excavation must undergo approval procedures and obtain approval from the National Cultural Relics Administration. During the excavation process, archaeological work must be conducted in accordance with the Field Archaeological Work Procedures issued by the National Cultural Relics Administration to ensure the scientific quality of the excavations. The selection criteria for archaeological discoveries must meet the requirements stipulated in Article 2 of the Cultural Relics Protection Law of the People's Republic of China, possessing historical, artistic, and scientific value. The term "new discovery" refers to an archaeological finding that, in addition to having historical, artistic, and scientific value, also contributes new content and insights to the development of Chinese archaeological research.
