Author: Lu Xun
Publisher:
Publish Date: 2005-11-01
Features: The 2016-11 reprinted edition of the Collected Works of Lu Xun focuses on three revisions compared to the 1981 edition: the addition of lost writings and letters, textual collation of the original works, and the revision and supplementation of annotations. Among them, 24 newly discovered lost writings and 18 newly discovered lost letters of Lu Xun were added, along with 68 original letters from Lu Xun's Letters from Two Places (which were not included in the 1981 edition) and the Collected Letters on Inquiries by Tatsuo Akita (including the original Japanese manuscript and Chinese translation, totaling about 100,000 words). This expanded the overall scale of the collection. At the same time, the new edition removed and adjusted 4 articles, making the collection of works in the entire collection more comprehensive and rigorous.
In the textual collation of the original works, this revision primarily used the versions reviewed by Lu Xun as the basis, referencing manuscripts, first editions, first publications, and other versions to meticulously verify and distinguish the original text, correcting errors and omissions in the 1981 edition. Works that Lu Xun did not publish in his lifetime but were compiled based on his handwriting were all checked against the manuscripts. This revision included over 1,000 changes, including punctuation. The revision also conducted a comprehensive and careful review of the annotations in the 1981 edition of the Collected Works of Lu Xun, correcting errors, supplementing deficiencies, and striving for objectivity. The new edition added over 1,000 new annotations and revised over 1,000 original annotations.
The revised 2005 edition of the Collected Works of Lu Xun consists of 18 volumes, including 10 volumes of creative works, 4 volumes of letters, 3 volumes of diaries, and 1 volume of indexes, with a total word count of approximately 7 million. The 2005 revised edition of the Collected Works of Lu Xun is now presented to readers in a new form. The revision of the new edition mainly focused on three aspects: the addition of lost writings and letters, textual collation of Lu Xun's original works, and the revision and supplementation of annotations. Experts have stated that the revised Collected Works of Lu Xun is more substantial and rigorous in content, with stronger reliability in academic materials, making it more compelling.
In terms of the addition and removal of lost writings and letters, the Collected Works of Lu Xun added 24 newly discovered lost writings of Lu Xun, 19 of which will be included in Volume 8, Supplementary Collection of Lost Writings. Compared to the addition of lost writings, the addition of Lu Xun's letters was even greater, including 18 newly discovered lost letters of Lu Xun. In addition, the new edition includes 68 original letters from Lu Xun to Xu Guangping, Letters from Two Places, and approximately 100,000 words of Lu Xun's Collected Letters on Inquiries by Tatsuo Akita (including the original Japanese manuscript and Chinese translation).
