They made significant contributions to the improvement of teaching methods and textbooks in Chinese painting academies, especially in the refinement of teaching materials and methods. To this day, institutions such as the Central Academy of Fine Arts and the College of Arts & Crafts still adopt the teaching illustrations created by Mr. Yu. These illustrations have been passed down for nearly four decades, only deepening their value. Many of the illustrations selected in this manual have been time-tested and proven classics, influencing generations of artists. Mr. Yu Zhizhen and Mr. Liu Lishang are indeed outstanding painters and art educators. Studying under them is like listening to the teachings of wise elders. When delivering lectures, they explained artistic principles and specific techniques in a well-organized, clear, and accessible manner, enabling students to grasp concepts intuitively and apply them flexibly.
