Features: The Chinese government has proposed a grand goal of comprehensively building a moderately prosperous society by 2020, and has included high-quality ecological environmental conditions as an important component of this goal. Under the support of the Ministry of Science and Technology and the Ministry of Environmental Protection, the Chinese Academy for Environmental Planning collaborated with the National Information Center to organize the research project "National Medium- and Long-Term Environmental Economic Simulation System." This project integrated economic forecasting with environmental forecasting, establishing a quantitative economic model for economic development, pollution emissions, and reductions. It also compiled an environmental economic input-output table consisting of 37 sectors, analyzing the resource and environmental pressures of future economic development and their interaction. Based on the aforementioned research findings, this book predicts the economic development prospects, water demand, energy demand, pollutant generation, abatement costs, and the impact of resource and environmental demands on economic development over the next 20 years for the comprehensive building of a moderately prosperous society. It also proposes a policy framework for integrating environmental and economic development.
