Features: Song Wenzhi (1919–1999) was from Taicang, Jiangsu. He graduated from the Suzhou Art College and later studied under the landscape painters Zhang Shiyuan and Wu Hufan. He also received guidance from Zeng Yanxiao and Zhu Qizhan. He served as the Deputy Director of the Jiangsu Provincial Painting and Calligraphy Research Institute, a member of the China Artists Association, the Vice President of the Jiangsu Provincial Artists Association, a Standing Committee member of the Jiangsu Provincial Political Consultative Conference, a professor at Nanjing University, and a Class 1 National Artist. As a landscape painter, Song Wenzhi, on the basis of inheriting tradition and deeply engaging with life, continuously practiced and explored, forming a personal artistic style that was both profound and elegant. He held numerous exhibitions both domestically and internationally, and his works were collected by museums, galleries, and art institutions around the world. His 1960s creation, "Grand Changes in Mountains and Rivers," as an innovative work of modern painting, had a broad impact on the art world. In his later years, he constantly experimented with new techniques, incorporating splashing colors into his paintings and focusing on the use of color and the expression of artistic conception, forming a new style of "beyond the realm of brushwork and ink, there is another world in painting." The Jiangnan water towns depicted by his brush are full of poetry and particularly moving.
