Is it normal for elderly women to have menstruation?

Patient's question:

At the age of 75, I had my period once, and it lasted for three days. A little over a month later, I had it again, and it has been four days with redness still present. I don't know if this is normal.

Doctor's answer:

For many years, there has been vaginal bleeding, but the amount is not significant. In this case, the first consideration is endometrial lesions, followed by cervical lesions. Further tests are needed to rule out endometrial cancer and cervical cancer.
It is recommended that you undergo an ultrasound examination followed by a diagnostic curettage or hysteroscopy to determine if there are any abnormal lesions. If no abnormal lesions are found, it is suggested that you take antibiotics and hemostatic drugs for treatment, while also discontinuing the use of nutritional supplements such as tonics.
