Features:
1. This book is primarily compiled based on Lin Sanzhi's handwritten notes. A small portion is selected from "Jiangshang Talks on Art" in "Lin Sanzhi's Prefaces and Postfaces Collection" and "Lin Sanzhi," with additional selection and organization. It also includes some of Lin's essays, poems, and a few prefaces and postfaces.
2. The original notes were written freely, but they have been categorized into 15 sections. While this reduces the sense of disorganization, it may also seem forced. Some notes contain multiple meanings and are extremely difficult to classify. This book adopts a compromise approach: "" (handling the same note separately) and "" (repeating the same note in different major categories). The sense of fragmentation and repetition is inevitable, though it rarely occurs.
3. Lin Sanzhi always taught his students according to their individual strengths. For the same question, his approach might vary in emphasis, perspective, or even appear contradictory. Without context and understanding of the audience, readers may misunderstand. Therefore, this book does not break all notes into fragments within each major category. Notes for different audiences are kept relatively independent, with the label "Talk with [Name]" added.
4. Many of the original handwritten notes lack punctuation or only use old-style punctuation. For the general reader, this book has added modern punctuation. Additionally, Lin Sanzhi occasionally made typos in his notes, especially in his later years. This book has noted obvious typos, and any errors are the responsibility of the editor.
5. Seals are closely related to calligraphy, but Lin Sanzhi had few notes on seals. Compiling a separate section seemed unnecessary, so this book includes some notes on seals in Section 14.
6. There are discrepancies in different versions of Lin Sanzhi's calligraphy poems. The text and order of the included poems are based on "Jiangshang Poems Collection."
7. The book includes illustrations of some of Lin Sanzhi's handwritten notes at the end for reference and appreciation.
