Several years later, when we look back at the new martial arts fiction of the 21st century on the mainland, we may compare Kunlun to the emergence of Jin Yong's The Legend of the Condor Heroes in 1958. Han Yunbo has known Feng Ge for four years, and three of those years were spent watching him write Kunlun. Cang Yue, besides Jin Yong, my two favorite martial arts novels are Sun Xiao's The Legend of the Heroic and Feng Ge's Kunlun. It is a story of a young martial artist wandering the Jianghu. He is an orphan of mixed Han and Mongol descent, a mischievous and lucky spirit. In the late Song Dynasty, the Mongols invaded the south. The young Liang Wenjing and his father, Liang Tiande, fled the Mongol conscription and entered Sichuan. Along the way, they encountered the assassination of the Imperial Commissioner of Huai'an Wang. The strategist Bai Pu of the Wang's mansion noticed that Liang Wenjing bore a resemblance to Huai'an Wang and used the "substitute for the peach" trick. Liang Wenjing refused to impersonate Huai'an Wang and escaped that night, meeting the Mongol woman Xiao Yuling and the impoverished scholar Gong Yangyu. Gong Yangyu taught Liang Wenjing the "Three Talents Returning to Origin Palm," which could counter Xiao Yuling's black water martial arts. However, after a tussle between Liang Wenjing and Xiao Yuling, they developed feelings for each other and discovered that Xiao Yuling's older brother, Xiao Leng, was the assassin who killed Huai'an Wang. Later, Xiao Leng arrived and tried to kill Liang Wenjing, but Xiao Yuling intervened. Liang Wenjing barely escaped with his life and was forced to go to Hezhou, where he was revered as Huai'an Wang. At that time, the Mongol army was pressing the borders, and battles erupted wherever they went. Liang Tiande was killed in battle, and Bai Pu also died at the hands of an internal traitor.
With enemies outside and assassins inside, facing the crisis of the nation, Liang Wenjing finally overcame his timid nature with the help of Xiao Yuling. He first defeated Xiao Leng, then killed the Mongol Khan, lifting the siege of Hezhou, and then resigned his post to marry Xiao Yuling.
