Patient's question:
Detailed medical condition and consultation purpose: Doctor, could an retroverted uterus cause any inconvenience during sexual activity? What are the causes of a retroverted uterus, and how should I treat it? How will it be during childbirth?Doctor's answer:
The position of the uterus within the pelvic cavity can be anterior, midline, or posterior, and it can also be classified as anteflexed or retroflexed. Under normal conditions, the uterus is in an anteflexed and antiposterior position, meaning the uterine body is tilted forward, and the lateral cervix is posterior and downward, causing the uterine body to be antiflexed. The term "uterine retroversion" refers to a condition where the longitudinal axis of the uterus remains unchanged, but the entire uteruss backward, which can easily cause the cervix to be in an upwardstate, making it difficult for the cervix to immerse in the seminal pool and thus affecting fertility. However, not all retroverted uteri cause infertility. Mild retroversion of the uterus is usually asymptomatic, while severe cases can lead to symptoms such as pelvic congestion, excessive menstrual bleeding, difficulty in menstrual discharge, increased leukorrhea, lower abdominal pain, back and waist pain, rectal fullness, and in some women, even dyspareunia or sexual discomfort.
