Polyps are usually one or more unequal in size, red in color, and shaped like a tongue. The diameter is generally about 1 cm, with soft and brittle texture, prone to bleeding. The stalk is thin and long. Cervical polyps are often overlooked because more than one-third of patients lack obvious symptoms and are only discovered during a doctor's examination. Even if symptoms are present, they are usually mild, primarily characterized by small amounts of bright red spotting or slight bleeding after sexual intercourse, sometimes mistaken for "menstruation." In some cases, the bleeding volume can be similar to that of menstruation. Some patients may have yellowish or whitish vaginal discharge, most of which has an odor, or contains blood streaks in the discharge. It can also manifest as postmenopausal vaginal bleeding, and unmarried patients often present with a swollen mass protruding from the vaginal opening.
