Patient's question:
I have an itchy lower body, and my underwear is always yellow. What's going on? How should I perform a self-examination of my breasts?Doctor's answer:
Inspection Method:1. During a Bath:
When taking a shower, apply soap to the chest first to facilitate smooth movement during inspection. During the check, place one hand behind your head and extend the fingers of the other hand, keeping them straight and together. Use the pads of your fingers to press the breast in a spiral motion, carefully examining every part to check for lumps. Repeat this method on both sides.
2. In Front of a Mirror:
Stand in front of a mirror with your arms hanging down. Check if the appearance of your breasts is normal. Look for signs such as nipple inversion, skin dimpling, swelling, etc. Gently squeeze your nipples to see if there is any discharge. Then, check your armpits for swollen lymph nodes. Finally, raise both arms above your head and repeat the check!
3. Lying Down:
Lie on your back. For those with fuller breasts, place a small pillow or folded towel under your left shoulder. Rest your left hand behind your head. Extend your right hand fingers, keep them together, and gently press your left breast in small circular motions. Imagine your breast as a clock face and check from the 12 o'clock position, moving clockwise to the starting point (at least 3 rotations). Repeat this method using your left hand to check your right breast.
Key Points for Inspection:
1. Finger Technique: Use the tips of your fingers while keeping them together.
2. Coverage: Include the area below the clavicle, the midline of the sternum, the lower edge of the ribs, and the armpits on both sides.
Finally, gently pinch your nipples with your thumb and index finger to check for any discharge.
