In the mid-1940s, in the Liulichang antique street of Beiping. The shopkeeper Tong Fengquan was framed by his colleague Shen Songshan for a Northern Song Dynasty official kiln porcelain. Tong Fengquan took revenge in kind, ultimately leading to Shen Songshan's bankruptcy and suicide. Unintentionally seeking revenge, Tong Fengquan was instead subjected to a chain of retributions, his wealth swept away by his associate Erkui, leaving him destitute and reduced to a street vendor.
The fallen Tong Fengquan coincidentally met the destitute siblings of the late Qing Fan Wuye, falling in love with his younger sister Mo He. To improve his dire situation, Fan Wuye repeatedly used Mo He as leverage, forcing Tong Fengquan to restore a broken old painting to profit. Tong Fengquan firmly refused. While selling goods in the street market, he met the Erniang (second grandmother) from the family of Rui Prince, who had secretly stolen two boxes of cultural relics and fled. When Tong Fengquan sold the cultural relics for Erniang, he offended her relatives, the Suoba, and was imprisoned. Later, he was redeemed by Erniang with money.
From this point on, Tong Fengquan and Ru Qiu Lan, Mo He became entangled in an endless web of emotions!
To prevent Mo He from marrying someone else, Tong Fengquan reluctantly painted a fake painting for Fan Wuye and orchestrated a sale to the antique dealer Lan Yigui in Liulichang. When the matter was exposed, Lan Yigui abandoned his shop and fled, forging a lasting enmity with Tong Fengquan and Fan Wuye.
To save Ru Qiu Lan from being beaten by the Rui family, Tong Fengquan was forced to accept the name of an unfaithful husband. Mo He saw this and left, her whereabouts unknown.
Lan Yigui sought revenge, and Fan Wuye finally went bankrupt and died heroically!
Out of pity, Tong Fengquan married Erniang, only to be scorned by the petty bourgeoisie! Their married life was tumultuous, but eventually, indifference gave way to affection. Just as their lives began to stabilize, Tong Fengquan was once again plagued by the international cultural relic dealer Lord Lu, his home burned down. Erniang vanished, neither seen nor heard of.
Returning to Liulichang as the head of a work team after participating in the revolution, Ru Qiu Lan reappeared. For the case of the Bodhisattva Worshiping Buddha Painting from the Longmen Grottoes, Tong Fengquan, Lan Yigui, and Ru Qiu Lan once again staged a drama of love, hatred, and emotions. In the end, the innocent were vindicated, and the guilty faced their consequences. Through the vicissitudes of life and the games of the mortal world, where the heart feels love, the path of the heart remains.
