Huang Qiuyun is a prose writer and critic. Originally named Huang Chaoyan, he also used the names Huang Qiuyun. Born in Hong Kong in 1918, he is originally from Shunde, Guangdong. He joined the Department of Chinese Language at Tsinghua University in 1935. Currently, he serves as a council member of the Chinese Writers' Association, vice chairman of the Guangdong Branch of the Writers' Association, and president of the (Guangzhou) International P.E.N. Club Center. His works include prose collections such as Floating and Sinking, Under the Lilac Flowers, The Tragedy of a Soul Corroded by Rust, and Selected Prose of Huang Qiuyun, critical collections like The Moss Flower Collection, The Collection of Ancient and Modern Works, Random Talks and Random Thoughts, and Selected Literary Criticism of Huang Qiuyun, as well as the memoir Years of Wind and Rain. This volume selects 53 prose works by Huang Qiuyun. With a lyrical tone, the author recalls past events, commemorates old friends, or depicts scenes and stories, all imbued with genuine emotions, blending rational reflection with heartfelt expression. His writing is simple yet rich in the spirit of the times, offering readers both intellectual enlightenment and artistic enjoyment.
