Features: "The Dreamers" is a "bold and fascinating story that portrays the relationships between people." What attracts readers is the inner world of the characters in the story—innocent, mysterious, and arrogant. According to the author, every young person is a "dreamer," seeking the innocence and beauty of dreams in 1968 students. Amid the unprecedented political radicalism and sexual openness of the time, their inner selves underwent a profound transformation. In the Paris depicted by Bertolucci's The Last Tango in Paris, the city is filled with the romantic passion unique to that era. Readers can also experience the erotic allure in the film The Last Tango in Paris, where the love scenes are as artistically charged as oil paintings and as captivating as sculptures. It was an age full of dreams and passion, an age of cinema and sexuality. Just before the May 1968 Paris events, American teenager Matthew meets the bohemian twin siblings Theo and Isabelle at the French Film Archive, and they bond over their shared love of cinema. Matthew harbors hidden homosexual desires but suppresses them deeply. Theo and Isabelle have grown up since childhood as if they were both male and female, being both siblings and lovers. Matthew's desires are thus directed toward both Theo and Isabelle. The three flower-like young men lose themselves in the world of cinema, indulging in the lust for love, taboos, and incest, unable to extricate themselves—until the revolutionary violence of the May events forcibly intrudes, forcing their sweet and bewildered youthful desires to give way to idealistic revolutionary fervor. The novel has now been adapted into a film by renowned director Bertolucci, marking his second challenge to taboos and a work that shakes the world, following The Last Tango in Paris.
