Lu Changpei: Language and Culture / Everyone's Little Books

Author: Luo Changpei
Publisher:
Publish Date: 2004-01-01
Features: This is a small book written by the pioneering linguistic master, Professor Luo Changpei, exploring the relationship between language and culture. It is regarded as a seminal work in the field of Chinese cultural linguistics. The content, purpose, and viewpoints of the entire book have been outlined in the "Introduction" and "Conclusion" chapters, so there is no need to elaborate further here. Although the materials were collected from various sources, the overall arrangement was my own initial attempt. Naturally, there are many shortcomings in both form and substance, and it is hoped that readers will provide constructive criticism to facilitate further improvement.
The work of linguistics—how can it align with the cause of national construction? This requires the continued efforts and collaborative cooperation of those who clearly understand the task at hand. What is the relationship between the logic and structure of the Chinese language, its categories, and the thinking of the Chinese people? How can we use the tools of language to advance Chinese culture, and how should these tools themselves be modified? These are extremely difficult questions to answer.
