What tests should women with polycystic ovary syndrome undergo?

Patient's question:

Because of irregular menstruation, there are many small follicles during the ultrasound. The doctor said I might have polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). What tests should I do?

Doctor's answer:

1. Laparotomy: Performed when suspected ovarian tumor or ovarian wedge resection is planned.
2. Hysterosalpingography: To observe the morphology and size of the ovaries and adrenal glands, in order to differentiate the cause of hyperandrogenism.
3. Laparoscopy: Can directly visualize bilateral ovarian enlargement with polycystic characteristics and thickened, grayish-white capsules.
4. Endoscopy: Includes culdoscopy and laparoscopy, to directly observe ovarian morphology or perform biopsy, aspiration, wedge resection, and electrocautery.
