Features: This "Student English-Chinese and Chinese-English Dictionary" is a compact English reference book suitable for students of ordinary middle schools and higher education institutions (humanities, sciences, and engineering) in China, as well as self-learners of English. It can also be used as a teaching reference for English teachers. The vocabulary scope of this dictionary covers basic English words, including all words, compound words, and phrases from the newly compiled English textbooks for primary and secondary schools in China (as well as old editions). It also includes the total vocabulary that English majors in the first and second years of higher education institutions, as well as undergraduates in humanities, sciences, and engineering, need to master in College English Levels 1-6 (College English Stages 1-6), based on the vocabulary list published in the "College English Teaching Syllabus" by the Higher Education Press and Shanghai Foreign Language Education Press. All words and phrases listed in the 1987 national adult higher education institution entrance examination review syllabus for English compiled by the State Education Commission of the People's Republic of China are also included in this dictionary. Additionally, it references various dictionaries to expand the collection of a considerable number of other commonly used words. The total number of entries in this dictionary is: (1) English-Chinese section: words (including derivatives) 10,000, compound words 1,900, phrases 2,700; (2) Chinese-English section: single characters 2,400, compound words 10,000. This quantity is sufficient to meet students' learning needs both in and out of the classroom.
