Features: To provide a gathering and exchange opportunity for biocontrol workers across the country, since the 1980s, the Biocontrol Professional Committee of the Chinese Society of Plant Protection and the Institute of Biocontrol (now the Institute of Agricultural Environment and Sustainable Development) of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences have held a national biocontrol academic symposium every five years. This year's national biocontrol academic symposium received strong support from peers nationwide, and participants actively submitted papers. We have compiled 230 of these papers into this book, presenting a collection and showcase of China's biocontrol work in the first five years of the 21st century. Although it cannot encompass all biocontrol research and applications currently underway in China, it covers almost all biocontrol fields. This book is divided into two main parts: biocontrol of insect pests and biocontrol of plant diseases. In the biocontrol of insect pests, it is categorized by biocontrol action factors into nine sections: parasitic natural enemies, botanical insecticides, biocontrol of invasive species, and insect pest integrated management with biocontrol as the main approach. The report on natural enemies includes studies on insect pests and predatory natural enemies controlling whiteflies in the past five years, field release techniques of Campoletis chlorideae for controlling cotton bollworms, reproduction and utilization of various ladybugs, and the large-scale successful release of Neoseiulus cucumeris. The basic research in this section involves the characteristics of endosymbiotic bacteria Wolbachia in natural enemies and their prospects for biocontrol applications, as well as specific molecular markers for natural enemies, establishing molecular detection techniques for natural enemies to evaluate field effects, and other related research.
