Can I still have children after a miscarriage?

Patient's question:

I had a C-section 6 months ago. Later, I got pregnant again and had a miscarriage. Then I got pregnant again. The baby is already 4 months old. Can it be delivered, or is there something specific that needs to be done? I am quite slim.

Doctor's answer:

Generally, at least 2 years are needed after a cesarean section before considering pregnancy. If the uterine wound cannot fully heal, pregnancy may lead to a recurrence of uterine wound dehiscence, severe bleeding, and even life-threatening complications. If you plan to carry the pregnancy to term, it is recommended that you go to the hospital as soon as possible for a thorough examination of the uterine healing to determine if early pregnancy can be focused on. It is generally advised to wait 2 years after a cesarean section before having a second child to ensure that the uterine incision is well-healed and to prevent early uterine rupture. Even if the incision has healed well, the scar tissue remains, and special attention should be paid, especially in the late stages of pregnancy. Rest in bed and seek medical attention promptly if you experience abdominal pain or other discomforts.
