Is stomach pain after sexual activity a sign of cervical cancer?

Patient's question:

I just had a baby about 5 months ago. Recently, I've noticed that my stomach aches a little after each sexual intercourse, and sometimes there's a bit of bleeding. My period hasn't come yet. Is this a symptom of cervical cancer?

Doctor's answer:

Contact bleeding is not necessarily cervical cancer. It could also be caused by chronic cervical inflammation. Vaginal bleeding and an increase in vaginal discharge can manifest as contact bleeding, postmenopausal bleeding, or irregular vaginal bleeding. There may be a risk of tumors. Cervical and vaginal cell smears are non-invasive, simple, and easy to perform. If there are doubts, they can be repeated multiple times, making them the best method for screening early cervical cancer. HPV infection is closely related to cervical tumors, and HPV testing should be conducted simultaneously.
