The author strives for simplicity, conciseness, and fluency in writing to suit the level of English learners envisioned for this book. The book first provides a concise description of the characteristics of English public speaking, comparing it with other forms of oral communication, such as dialogue. It then offers a detailed analysis of the structure of a speech, i.e., its various components, and uses numerous excellent examples to illustrate aspects such as language usage, rhetorical style, and organization. Preparing for a speech and delivering it are the other two important contents of this book. Knowing what to say does not necessarily mean knowing how to say it. It is not uncommon for people to be misunderstood or put in awkward situations due to inappropriate expression. Therefore, "how to say it" sometimes appears even more important.
