Can you drink tea before and after pregnancy?

Patient's question:

Can you drink green tea before and after pregnancy?
Currently, I am drinking water with licorice and chrysanthemum flowers. Does this have any effect on pregnancy?

Doctor's answer:

Pregnant women who enjoy drinking tea can consume a moderate amount of green tea, but if they drink too much or too strong tea, especially strong black tea, it can be harmful to the fetus. Drinking light green tea one hour after a meal can resolve this issue. Pregnant women who do not have a tea-drinking habit should preferably consume beverages rich in vitamin C, as vitamin C can help with iron absorption and also enhance the body's disease resistance.
