Patient's question:
Hello, I have had candidiasis for three or four months. I have been treated, but it keeps recurring. I am very frustrated and under a lot of stress. Please ask the expert for a treatment plan.First follow-up question: Could you also ask how my boyfriend should be treated?
Doctor's answer:
Hello: This condition is very stubborn and prone to recurrence. Both partners should be treated simultaneously, and cross-infection must be strictly prevented. If diagnosed as candidal vulvovaginitis, a 2%–4% soda solution can be used daily to rinse the external genitalia and vagina or for sitz baths. A 10-day course is recommended to alter the pH and create conditions unfavorable for the survival of fungi. Then, nystatin can be used, such as in powder, tablet, suppository, or ointment form, inserted into the vagina or applied locally. The dosage is 100,000–200,000 units per time, once nightly, with a 10–14-day course. The external genitalia can be treated with 3% miconazole ointment for better results. Due to the stubborn and recurrent nature of the condition, local treatment is generally preferred. Alternatively, oral nystatin tablets (500,000–1,000,000 units) can be taken three times daily, or spiramycin capsules can be used, with a 7–10-day course. Follow-up is necessary, and the condition is considered cured only after three consecutive negative results.
