Patient's question:
Because of severe erosion, I received Aprost treatment at the hospital, twice a week. The doctor said it would take three months. May I have sexual intercourse with my husband during this period? Thank you!Doctor's answer:
Hello, cervical erosion refers to the condition where the squamous epithelium of the vaginal part of the cervix at the external os of the cervix is covered by columnar epithelium due to inflammation, making the tissue in that area appear as a fine-grained red area. In the early stages of inflammation, the erosion surface is covered by a single layer of columnar epithelium, with a flat surface, known as simple erosion. Later, due to excessive glandular epithelial hyperplasia accompanied by interstitial hyperplasia, the erosion surface becomes uneven and granular, referred to as granular erosion. If interstitial hyperplasia is significant, the surface becomes even more uneven and papillary, known as papillary erosion. According to the size of the erosion area, it can be divided into three degrees: mild, where the erosion surface is less than 1/3 of the entire cervix area; moderate, where the erosion surface occupies 1/3 to 2/3 of the entire cervical area; and severe, where the erosion surface occupies more than 2/3 of the entire cervical area. The main clinical symptom is an increase in leukorrhea. However, due to differences in bacteria, the scope and severity of inflammation, the amount, nature, color, and odor of leukorrhea can vary, appearing as creamy mucous, sometimes pale yellow purulent, and may include bloody leukorrhea or post-coital bleeding when polyps are present. When inflammation spreads along the uterosacral ligaments to the pelvic cavity, it may cause lower back and sacral pain, pelvic lower abdominal pain, and dysmenorrhea. It often worsens during menstruation, defecation, or sexual intercourse.Cervical erosion is the most common reproductive organ inflammation in women and is more common in married women. Medical workers in China once conducted an epidemiological survey in a city in Hubei Province, and the results showed that the incidence rate of cervical erosion among employed married women was as high as 43.89%, with mild cervical erosion accounting for 70.12%, moderate cervical erosion accounting for 27.86%, and severe
