Features: After China's entry into the WTO, all sectors urgently needed timely and accurate information about the dispute settlement reports adopted by the WTO Dispute Settlement Body. To address this, the Shanghai WTO Affairs Consulting Center organized professionals to translate the full texts of the Appellate Body reports and arbitration reports adopted by the WTO Dispute Settlement Body in 2004 into Chinese, while striving to remain faithful to the original texts and preserve their authenticity. This was done to provide relevant individuals with a comprehensive understanding of the current status and reasoning behind the WTO Dispute Settlement Body's decisions, as well as to facilitate in-depth research on WTO rules and the use of the WTO dispute settlement mechanism in China. WTO Cases (2004) collects five Appellate Body reports and three arbitration reports. Additionally, due to space constraints, the book provides summaries of the expert reports from 2004, focusing on procedural and substantive issues, which are compiled as Appendix I for readers to gain a comprehensive overview of the cases handled by the WTO Dispute Settlement Body in 2004. Appendix II of the book includes the annual report of the WTO Dispute Settlement Body for 2004, while Appendix III includes the annual report of the WTO Appellate Body for 2004, allowing readers to fully understand the activities of the WTO Dispute Settlement Body in 2004. Furthermore, to help readers gain insights into China's use of the WTO dispute settlement mechanism since its entry into the WTO, Dr. Yang Guohua, Director of the WTO Division of the Legal Department of the Ministry of Commerce of China, was invited to write the article The Journey of China's Participation in the WTO Dispute Settlement Mechanism, which is included as an appendix in this book. WTO Cases (2004) will serve as a valuable reference tool for legal and economic and trade professionals to stay updated and conduct research on WTO dispute settlement cases. The book presents the full translations of all dispute settlement reports handled by the WTO Dispute Settlement Body in 2004. The English translations are all sourced from the official website of the WTO, ensuring their authoritative version. Together with the previously published WTO Case Collection (2001) (2002) (2003), it forms a complete set of dispute settlement models and serves as a reference for professionals in the international economic and trade sector and the legal field.
