What are the reasons for prolonged sperm liquefaction time?

Patient's question:

Hello doctor, I would like to ask what are the reasons for prolonged sperm liquefaction time? I have developed semen liquefaction disorder, and I don't know how I got this condition. We really want to have a child, but we can't get pregnant. Could this be related to this reason? How should I be treated? What are the causes of semen liquefaction disorder?

Doctor's answer:

Ejaculate liquefaction failure is commonly caused by conditions such as seminal vesiculitis and prostatitis, which lead to insufficient secretion of fibrinolysin by the prostate; deficiencies in trace elements (such as magnesium, zinc, etc.); congenital absence of the prostate; and other factors. It is generally believed that the secretions of the prostate and seminal vesicles participate in the coagulation and liquefaction processes of semen. The coagulation factor produced by the seminal vesicles causes semen to coagulate, while the liquefaction factors produced by the prostate, such as proteolytic enzymes and fibrinolysin, cause semen to liquefy. Once inflammation occurs in the seminal vesicles or prostate, it can disrupt the secretion of these factors, leading to an increase in coagulation factors or a decrease in liquefaction factors, resulting in semen liquefaction failure.
