Patient's question:
I have been pregnant for more than a week now. Since this is my first pregnancy, I am not very familiar with many aspects of pregnancy. I heard that a progesterone test needs to be done. I would like to ask when should I get a progesterone test after getting pregnant?Doctor's answer:
Hello, currently, for cases where luteal midcycle progesterone deficiency, endometrial biopsy shows poor secretory phase, or clinical observation confirms luteal phase deficiency, progesterone supplementation therapy can be used to improve the condition. This method is also the most widely used. The specific methods are as follows:① Progesterone vaginal suppositories, 25 mg inserted into the deep vagina or rectum, twice a day (morning and evening), self-administered by the patient, starting 2 days after the rise in basal body temperature (on day 16 or 17 of the menstrual cycle) and continuing until menstruation occurs, effectively improving progesterone deficiency.
② Progesterone oil solution, 10 mg administered intramuscularly daily, or 20 mg every other day, starting 2 days after the rise in basal body temperature.
③ Synthetic progestogens:
- Medroxyprogesterone acetate, 2 mg taken three times a day, or 5 mg once at night, starting 2 days after the rise in basal body temperature.
- Hydroxyprogesterone, administered intramuscularly twice a week, 125 mg each time, starting 2 days after the rise in basal body temperature.
