Features: During the War of Resistance against Japan, several universities in northern China relocated to Kunming, and the ancient tower known as "Kui Ge," which was once used for worshipping the Kui Star, became the workplace for a small group of scholars led by Fei Xiaotong. At "Kui Ge," a small group of outstanding sociologists and anthropologists created remarkable social science research achievements during a difficult era (the War of Resistance against Japan). These achievements later became a model for human ecology (community) research and were widely recognized by colleagues both domestically and internationally. In this sense, "Kui Ge" may also mark a certain aspect of Chinese sociology and anthropology that can be called an "era." More than half a century has passed since the "Kui Ge era," and this book, blending various memories, inherits and reflects on the past achievements of Chinese sociology and anthropology, while also commemorating the academic passion and perseverance shown by the predecessors in tough times.
