How many days after menstruation can you get an IUD inserted?

Patient's question:

Detailed medical condition and consultation purpose: I had an abortion on the 5th of last month, and my period came on the 6th of this month and ended on the 10th. Last night, I had sex with my husband twice. Can I still get an IUD inserted? We didn't use any protection. Is this safe?

Doctor's answer:

Within 3 to 5 days after menstruation (no sexual activity is allowed), visit the hospital to get an IUD inserted. After the insertion, rest appropriately within the first 2 weeks, avoid heavy physical labor, and eat nutritious foods. Pay attention to external genital hygiene; avoid tub baths and sexual activity within the first 2 weeks. On the day of insertion, mild lower abdominal discomfort, back pain, or a small amount of vaginal bleeding may occur. If postoperative vaginal bleeding exceeds menstrual flow, persists for more than half a month, or severe abdominal pain occurs, please come to the hospital for follow-up immediately. After the procedure, take appropriate amounts of antibiotics and hemostatic medications.
