Patient's question:
Hello!I would like to ask, if my friend becomes infertile due to pelvic inflammatory disease, what treatment methods are available?
Is Zhiwu Guiyou Pill the most effective for pelvic inflammatory disease? Are there any better options?
Doctor's answer:
Hello: According to your girlfriend's condition, active anti-inflammatory treatment should be initiated, along with tubal patency testing.Pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) refers to inflammation of any part of the female pelvic organs, including the uterus, fallopian tubes, ovaries, or surrounding tissues, as well as the pelvic peritoneum. The inflammation can be localized to one area or affect multiple areas simultaneously. In clinical terms, a narrower definition of PID refers specifically to salpingitis (inflammation of the fallopian tubes).
PID can be caused by infections spreading from the external genitalia upward, or by infections from adjacent organs or other parts of the body. Bacteria often enter the pelvic cavity during menstruation, miscarriage, childbirth, or through surgical wounds in the reproductive tract, leading to inflammation. PID is classified as either acute or chronic. Acute PID typically has clear causes and can often be cured with timely, thorough, and effective treatment. If acute PID is not fully treated, it may progress to chronic PID. However, chronic PID is more commonly the result of a slow onset, mild symptoms that go unnoticed, leading to delayed treatment and prolonged inflammation. This type of PID often results in infertility.
Chronic PID often manifests as bilateral fallopian tube inflammation. Over time, the openings of the fallopian tubes, especially the fimbriae (the end that receives the egg), may partially or completely close. Inflammation can also cause adhesions in the fallopian tube lining, narrowing or blocking the lumen. This disrupts the passage of eggs, sperm, or fertilized eggs, leading to infertility. Severe PID can spread to the pelvic peritoneum, uterus, and surrounding tissues, ultimately causing these organs to harden and become immobile. Particularly, the fallopian tubes lose their flexibility and motility, becoming rigid.
