Do you ovulate during your period?

Patient's question:

Will there be ovulation during menstruation? What is the chance of getting pregnant if sexual intercourse occurs on the 3rd day of the menstrual period???

Doctor's answer:

If the menstrual cycle is regular, it is generally around 14 days before the next menstrual period. Starting from the first day of the next menstrual period and counting backward 14 days, or subtracting 14 days, will give you the ovulation day. The ovulation day, along with the 5 days before and 4 days after, together constitute the fertile window.
For women with irregular menstrual cycles, it is recommended to monitor ovulation with ultrasound. You can have an ultrasound examination at the hospital 10 days after the onset of menstruation (counting from the first day of menstruation) to check the condition of the eggs. This can significantly increase the chances of conception.
