Will pelvic effusion cause abdominal distension

Patient's question:

My transvaginal ultrasound detected 30cm of pelvic fluid. Recently, I've been experiencing persistent bloating and gas. Is there a connection between the two?

Doctor's answer:

Hello: There is a certain relationship, and you must actively treat your pelvic effusion! The ultrasound examination shows a liquid on the left side of the uterus, indicating pelvic effusion. This is not a serious condition, so there is no need to panic. Pelvic effusion refers to inflammatory exudate in the pelvic cavity, which can occur after endometrial inflammation. The slightly viscous fluid is exuded from swollen cells of the endometrium tissue and gradually forms a cystic mass as it is surrounded by surrounding tissues. If left untreated, it can gradually grow larger. If it becomes too large, medication cannot eliminate it, and surgery may be required to remove it. Pelvic effusion can be completely cured, but effective treatment must be based on identifying the causative pathogen.
Apart from the normal pelvic effusion in women due to physiological characteristics, pathological pelvic effusion is mostly caused by pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) or endometriosis. The causes of PID are often related to poor hygiene habits, such as sexual activity during menstruation or within one month after childbirth, or taking a bath after gynecological surgery within one month. Medical infections caused by unsafe abortion or miscarriage procedures can also lead to pelvic effusion. For effusion caused by pelvic inflammation, posterior fornix aspiration should be performed to determine the nature of the fluid. Chronic infection foci may be due to inflammation of the gynecological system, such as the ovaries or fallopian tubes, or may be caused by tuberculosis or tumors. Early treatment of PID is crucial, as delaying it can affect fertility.
To identify the causative pathogen of pelvic inflammation, special laboratory tests should be conducted, followed by symptomatic medication.
If tuberculosis is suspected, antitubercular treatment should be administered.
Aspiration of effusion is a means of examination or symptomatic treatment and should not be performed frequently.
Because simple aspiration of effusion not only does not cure pelvic effusion but may also cause the effusion to increase.
