Theoretical Study of Narrative Theory in American and British Fiction

Author: Shen Dan
Publisher:
Publish Date: 2005-10-01
Features: This book is the first of its kind both domestically and internationally to combine post-classical narrative theory and event theory with traditional and modern narrative theory for exploration. It not only addresses the neglect of new developments in narrative theory within the domestic academic community but also introduces a historical perspective. The first part of the book explores traditional British and American novel narrative theory, the middle part focuses on modern British and American novel narrative theory, and the final part concentrates on North American post-classical novel narrative theory from the 1990s onwards. Many of the issues discussed in this book have been overlooked in previous research, and numerous viewpoints presented are among the first to be proposed both domestically and internationally. The research methods adopted in the first and middle parts, which combine the novelist's narrative perspective with creative practice, represent an innovation compared to previous studies, and the comparative study of different narrative traditions in British and American novels also constitutes a new approach. The final part clarifies the confusion surrounding concepts and terminology in post-classical narrative theory and corrects various misconceptions.
