Is hysterosalpingography the same as tubal irrigation?

Patient's question:

Detailed medical condition and consultation purpose: I had my period on November 8th. Could you please tell me when I should generally do an ultrasound to monitor ovulation? My menstrual cycle is usually irregular. Also, is hysterosalpingography (HSG) the same as tubal irrigation? Is it necessary to do it within 3-5 days after my period? Can it be done at other times?

Doctor's answer:

Hello: You can actively check during your ovulation period. As for the principles of contrast or hydrodilation, they are the same. It is not necessary to do it around 3 days after your period; it can also be done in about a week. The calculation of the ovulation period is as follows:
The calculation of ovulation is not absolute and varies from person to person. Under normal circumstances, there is a rise in body temperature. Nowadays, many people plan to have children on a specific schedule, so they are very concerned about how to calculate ovulation and how to use the basal body temperature method to determine the ovulation day? How should the basal body temperature method be done correctly?
For women with a regular menstrual cycle, the day of ovulation is actually relatively fixed, usually around 14 days before the next menstrual period. For example, if this period is on March 5th, the next period might be around April 5th, and the ovulation day could be around March 20th. For women with irregular menstrual cycles, it may be more difficult to determine the ovulation date. The simplest method is usually to measure the basal body temperature to find the ovulation date.
The correct method for measuring basal body temperature is to wake up in the morning without any physical activity, start taking the temperature in bed, and use an oral thermometer.
After taking the temperature, record the daily readings on a temperature chart. Once the temperature rises by 0.5 degrees compared to the previous day and remains elevated for three to five days, that day may be the ovulation day. If you want to conceive during the ovulation period, the best time to have intercourse is one to two days after the temperature rises, as this has the highest conception rate.
